Job interviews for pharmaceutical sales are unlike other types of job interviews. These interviews are used to assess whether a candidate is suitable in the sales environment in addition to reviewing background histories and skills. Interviewers would often ask tricky questions that test the personalities of candidates in order to determine sales potential.

If during a pharmaceutical sales job interview and the reviewer asks you a question on whether you prefer to work alone or with others in groups, you have to be careful here. If you say a solo environment is definitely better, they may not see you as a team player. If you say that you prefer working in groups, they might think that you would not be effective in sales since most of the time, pharmaceutical reps are out in the field on their own.
Therefore, the safest route to take here is to say that you like both environments and can be effective in both. When you are alone, you can be effective as an independent worker. Then when you are working with others in group projects or at meetings, you can also work effectively in teams.
You must convey the impression during a job interview that your skills enable you to excel in both scenarios. Don’t get fooled by the interviewer’s trick question. Here’s an effective response:
“I like both. I realize that most of the time, reps work alone and I certainly can be effective in this mode. Working with others at times will be a nice change and I can also be quite effective in teams as well. It’s a good working mix in my mind.”
Asking you about your strengths during an interview is an opportunity for you to sell yourself. Asking you about weaknesses is another matter and is another example of a tricky question. You must be careful here not to expose any specific weak skills that may hurt you during an interview. Whenever I encountered questions about my weaknesses during my interviews, I countered with something like this:
“In all honesty, the only weakness I think I have is perhaps a lack of industry specific experience since pharmaceutical sales will be new for me. However, I am strong on my communications and sales related skills. I am also a fast learner so I am certain that industry specific training that your company could provide will help me make up for this lack of industry experience. I’m sure that I would be able to get up to speed pretty quickly and start growing those sales for your company.”

Advertising Products As Employee Incentives

By Ann A Christopher

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

It's rare that a enterprise can find a way to thank employees that also helps the business itself, but promo gear are one such avenue where employees and organizations get the best of both worlds. There are no losers when advertising pieces are used as employee incentives. Here's how the exchange works for both parties.
A small business decides that promotional pieces will be an inexpensive way to promote the name and phone number of the company. People will get something for free and the company will receive exposure to the outside world. This will increase business and the customers won't feel like they've been advertised to.
There's no better people to give the advertising objects to than the employees themselves. They get something useful or fun for free and they're able to feel a sense of pride that they're part of what makes the company successful. Many employees feel a sense of pride when they use promo things. This is a great way for a firm to show that it appreciates employees and it's a great way for employees to help advertise the business they've worked so hard to make successful.
While employees take these gifts home, they become closer to the company they work for. They also become participants in an inexpensive advertising campaign, something that works out wonderfully for the business that employs them.
Everyone that sees the promotional pieces can not only know about the name of the small business, but they can ask someone who works there what the small business sells. It's a great way to put customers in touch with the friendly people that work in a small business while at the same time giving the corporation even more detailed exposure thanks to the explanations given by the employees.
This kind of advertising has worked well for businesses and organizations for years. It's the reason why employees so often receive a large bounty of company promo pieces to take home with them. It's a way to say thank you without asking them to do anything special. In return, the firm gets extremely-needed visibility in the world outside the office, with the additional benefit of someone that is willing and eager to explain what they do for the business. It's like having its own personal representative on the outside.
When employees are given free promotional gadgets, they feel more worthwhile to the enterprise and more proud of what they do. They're likely to use those advertising objects as a way to show off that pride and to explain more about the company they work for when asked.

Best Online Degree

By Keith Londrie

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Because there are so many online degrees to choose from, you may be somewhat unsure of how to proceed in picking the right one. Here are some tips to help you choose from online degrees that will provide you with the type of credentials that you want because you do not have to worry about geographic location you literally have thousands of programs and online universities to choose from. However, you cannot depend on name recognition alone. There are many offers out there and you need to research the subject properly before making a commitment. In addition, price is not a reliable indication of an online universities' value. We are going to present you with helpful information to help you choose the best online college for your online degree.
The first thing you must do is check on the accreditation of the institution that issues the online degrees. The Internet is full with diploma mills with dubious accreditation mixed together with those that are worth it. To prevent this unpleasant situation you had better check with accreditation associations that are available in your country, and make sure the institution is in good standing. By making sure you pick the right e-learning institution, you will save money and time. In addition, you will not have to go through the embarrassment of having your studies rejected.
You have to research whether or not a university or college that also operates a traditional campus as well as a virtual one issues the online degrees. This can prove to be very important, because you may have to attend a certain number of hours on campus before you are awarded your degree. If this is not something, with which you feel comfortable, then it is best to pass on that program and look for online degrees that can be earned by online study.
Do some research concerning the type of financial aid programs are offered by the institution, or if there are flexible payment plans. By knowing how you will have to pay for the courses, you are more likely to complete your degree on time. Never sign up for anything that you do not reasonably think you can honor or respect the agreement on time. Because online degrees are aimed at working adults, you are sure to find a program with a payment plan that fits with your budget.
Because of online degrees, many people can pursue their dreams of a college education, even if life experience has prevented them from doing so in the past. You will soon be able to claim the title of college graduate if you take your time and make the right choice after careful consideration of the offers available on the market.
Will You Get Tech Support When You Need It?
Online learning programs cannot afford to permit students to spend entire hours on the phone in order to fix a software mistake. Because their are students who have time do assignments at odd hours, tech support should be available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
Make sure that the teachers involved in the online program are certified. You should ask what their fields of activity are and in which field are them the most experienced. Their are online universities which use adjunct faculty members who are practitioners in their fields. In this case, students would work with somebody who has both knowledge and experience. They will not only learn information but also use it in real-life situations.
If you choose to submit to an online school, it is clear that you have many things going on in your life. That is why you have to make sure you have taken the best choice. Ask what happens in the eventuality that you need to abandon a course partway through. Most of the online students have jobs and families. When you have so much to deal with life unexpectedly gets in the way of studies and the only way to deal with it is to leave a course. Before applying, ask what provisions the online degree program makes if you have to drop a course partway through. You should ask if you will get a refund and if you can later on be readmitted to the school and continue your studies.
Nowadays it is very common for students to transfer credits from one school to another. Because this is so common and helpful you need to ask what is their policy for transferring credits. Transferring credits between institutions has gotten better since online education has become more accepted as a part of the educational system. Despite this fact, not every institution will accept online credits and it is better to be informed.
Before joining, an online school in order to obtain an online degree makes sure you can afford it. Besides the tuition, you have to take into consideration the additional costs. Education is not cheap, but is worth the expenses. You should remember that you need textbooks and software too, because education is a complex process. In your effort to cover all of these costs, make sure that you take into consideration the grants, loans, scholarships, and the other financial means that are offered to you.
When you choose to be a student at a certain University, you do it because you feel that the institution will help you to achieve your goals. That is why you have to make sure that the school fits your educational goals and your career objectives. Another thing to consider is the amount of time in which the program lets you earn your degree. It should be according to your needs, no more, no less. You should make some research on the pace in which you are going to study. You have to be sure that you can handle the information volume and the pace used in that school.

I'll bet that the first time you ever heard of an MLM home business opportunity presentation, the word "duplication" wasn't far behind. It's long been accepted as gospel that for memorable network marketing career success and royalty profits, you must have duplication. And to effectively recruit network marketing leaders, you must be able to present them with a turnkey system that works.
Back in 1989, I was reading the business opportunity ads in the weekend edition of USA Today. I circled a few ads and called the most inviting one. An enthusiastic voice mail message asked for my contact information. The message offered me a free audiotape loaded with profitable MLM secrets.
The mail came. I listened to the tape, by a fellow by a heavy hitter named Dayle Maloney. You may well know Dayle, an old-time MLMer, very successful.
I admit, residual income sounded great. But I wanted nothing to do with downlines, compensation plans, endless in-home meetings, listing my warm market, prelaunches, or sales presentations.
I had been there and done that and had been killed off a few times in MLM. But Dayle had some fresh strategies about how to attract targeted reps from a cold market. One distributor training point in particular stuck with me. Dayle said that if you are ever going to make a big paycheck in network marketing, if you are ever going to kiss your boss goodbye and retire from your job, you've got to do your own recruiting audiotape. No argument - you just have to.
And that thought stuck with me. A few years later, I found a life-changing MLM nutritional product. I figured if there was ever any product I could sell, it would be that one. I remembered what Dayle said. So I wrote a script and then rented studio time and recorded a 90-minute promotional audiotape. It set me apart from the masses. I had good success with it.
Over the next few years, I did 6 or 8 different motivational audiotape sponsoring presentations. And every one of them built a profitable business. Most were scripted. Some, I recorded with company owners, doctors, marketing experts, and others. The technology has changed today, though. No more audiotapes - it's all online audio and video.
To Have Major Long-Term Network Marketing Success, You Need To Brand Yourself
That first prospecting audiotape differentiated me from my MLM competition. And as I built my networking business, my people had an exclusive recruiting tool. (THAT is where the duplication comes in!) In MLM, you are always talking about how important duplication is. And it definitely is important. You've got to have a lead generation and training system that other people can get quick results with.
But if you are ever going to be the big guru leader with the huge success and big monthly paycheck who can effectively recruit network marketing leaders, you also have to brand yourself as a specialist, an expert. Figure out a unique message and a unique way to deliver it ... video, podcast, email, conference call ... figure out a solution, online and offline, that makes you different. That's when network marketing becomes a REALLY interesting and fun game.

Document Generation Solutions For Your Business Needs

By Scott Duglase

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

It's like an evil catch twenty two aimed directly at your business's bottom line. All that time it takes for document generation costs you money; but, alas, those reports are absolutely necessary in order for the business to actually make any money. The question is, are there solutions out there that will give you the quality reports you need while not sucking a ton of money out of your bottom line? The answer is a resounding yes, and any business owner worth his or her salt will start their research on the many solutions immediately, if not sooner. For those of you who are not immediately convinced of the importance of innovative document generation solutions, I've got three ways it can directly benefit your business's bottom line.
Efficiency is King of any business. Is efficiency that important? Ask any business owner or CEO and they will answer with a resounding yes. They will also let you know, unfortunately, that no one has come close yet. Without wasting resources and man hours, document solutions are the best way to boost the efficiency of your business and allowing your employees to spend more time on other items besides generating reports. And, because all employees and actually create and alter the reports on the spot, the business gets the reports exactly when they need them without having to wait hours or days for programmers to do the 'behind the scenes' coding work. Ah, efficiency!
But don't think that just because you are cutting your reporting time in half that you have to settle for lackluster quality. Most document generation solutions will work directly with your basic Microsoft Office packages to generate very high quality reports in programs that all of your employees are already familiar with. Your audience is looking for clarity and detail, and with the solutions out there, these reports give them what they need. It doesn't take a genius to understand that better reports lead better presentations, which usually leads to an increase in business for you.
Finally, these types of solutions can give you the flexibility to provide all of the different types of reports you need for the different departments, partners, and investors that have a stake in the business, whether it needs to be formatted in DOCX, XLSX, PDF, XML, HTML, or whatever else it might be. The bottom line is that one report can give each different audience exactly what they need.

Career Guidance and Career Advice on the Subject of CV and Interview Skills

By Diarmuid Haughian

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

How different are interviews for 'college entry' to 'job application' interviews?
There is little difference other than the objective of the interviewer. In both cases the candidate is there to talk about themselves & their commitment to what they are applying for.
The job interviewer is looking for the candidates ability to do the job to be filled & to determine what training may be requires & how long this might take. The college interviewer is looking for commitment to completing the course as well as the academic/practical skills needed to complete course/project assignments
How can you best prepare for either of these types of interviews?
A candidate needs to do research to identify the requirements of the employer & the college course to demonstrate that he/she has the abilities to complete the work which will be assigned along with the ability to learn from the training provided.
What makes an eye catching CV? How can a CV open the door to an interview?
On that is short & to the point - no more than 2 pages as the scan time for most CV is c. 30 seconds. It should be easy to read - font size should not be small, No spelling errors, no faded print. It should be logical - all relevant material in the same section. You only get one chance to make a first impression & this is it.
How can a career guidance professional help a candidate with regards to Interviews Skills and a professional CV and general career advice?
They help the inexperienced or out of practice candidate to focus on the important areas which the interviewer will concentrate. They also help candidates to avoid negative self-expressions & to identify6 positive language/expressions which instills confidence.
How can a career guidance professional help a candidate to prepare for employment pre interview aptitude exams?
They cannot. Aptitude tests (particularly personality tests) are designed to capture the candidates mental attitude at that moment in time & the scoring is quite elaborate & complex. When these tests are approached with a view to giving consistent answers the result can be more negative than positive.
Can role plays be involved?
Yes. There is nothing like being put on the spot to answer a question to help focus a candidate's mind on what & how they are going to reply in the real thing.
Briefly speaking what are the top three do's and don't in an interview situation?
Do's
1. Knows why applying for the position.
2. Answers questions asked.
3. Neat coordinated Appearance.
Don'ts
1. No back-up with examples.
2. Mumble/use monotone voice.
3. Waffle, drift off the point.

Success at Work : People Skills : Complaining

By Stephen Bucaro

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Do you know an individual at work who is a chronic complainer? Are YOU a chronic complainer? People don't like complainers. Listening to a chronic complainer gets people depressed. They prefer to associate with people that make them feel good. If you are always complaining about something, people will start to ignore you.
If you're a chronic complainer, you're sabotaging yourself and your success at work. In this article, I explain how you can improve your outlook at work and improve your prospects for success. The first thing you need to do is get in touch with reality.
People are not perfect and you shouldn't expect them to be. An organization is a group of people, so no company or organization can be perfect. If you expect your organization to be perfect, you need to change your expectations.
Instead of expecting things to be perfect, expect everything to be totally screwed up at all times. Then on the rare occasion when something does go right, you will be pleasantly surprised.
There are many problems that you can't do anything about. Learn to work around the things you can't change. Some things you can change. Instead of whining and complaining, take responsibility for a problem you can solve. Don't try to change the world, focus on improving your own little corner of the company.
You might realize that there are many problems you might be able to solve. Don't try to solve all the problems at once. Prioritize the things that you view as problems and choose your battles. Attack the most important problem first.
When you complain, limit your complaint to one problem and be specific. Along with your complaint, suggest a realistic solution. If you can't think of a realistic solution to the problem, then how do you expect someone else to solve the problem?
Sometimes it's best to put your complaint in writing. Put your written complaint aside for a day. Don't submit your complaint until your writing is clear, logical, and carefully thought out. By the time you finish, you may realize that you didn't completely understand the problem, or you may decide that the problem isn't worth complaining about after all.
If your complaint involves a person, avoid attacking that individual. Don't complain that the individual is stupid or inconsiderate. Complain that what the individual did was stupid or inconsiderate. If a person works really hard, they might be able to change how they act, but they can never change who they are.
Complaining about your boss or a higher manager is very dangerous. Don't complain about the boss to your coworkers. If your boss loses face, the only way to gain back their self respect may be to fire you. Ask your boss for a private meeting and discuss the problem in a calm and polite manner.
Whether the person you are complaining about is your boss or a coworker, try to make some compliments along with the complaint. Everybody has good and bad characteristics. Make sure the individual understands that you recognize and appreciate their good characteristics. That person may not realize that anyone thought they had good characteristics and you may gain a new friend.
Note: Similar to never complaining about your boss to coworkers, a consultant should never complain about his company to the firm that he is hired out to.
It may be difficult to recognize, but all problems have a good side. Many problems are opportunities in disguise. Look for the positive side in every problem. Approach all problems with a sense of humor. If you can find the positives or the humor in a problem and you make positive statements to your coworkers and your boss, you will greatly improve your prospects for success at work.

Work at Home Call Center FAQ

By Laureen Miles Brunelli

To find a home call center job (aka virtual call center), start by researching potential companies carefully. Though there are many legitimate companies hiring work at home call center agents, call center jobs (as well as data entry jobs) are often used at the bait in work-at-home scams.
Most legitimate at home call center jobs require an investment in home office equipment, and some do charge fees. So before you spend any money to get set up as a work at home call center agent, ask some questions.

What type of work does the company offer home call center agents?

First, find out if the company you're considering contracts with clients to provide call center service or if the company utilize these services itself. And then, what kind of call center jobs does it offer? The most common types are:
  • Sales or telemarketing
  • Customer service
  • Verification
  • Technical support

Account Executives

From Rachel Deahl

What Do Account Executives Do?
A friend of mine, who works in advertising, once likened the job of an account executive to that of an orchestra conductor. As he explained it, account executives, like orchestra conductors, are there to make sure everything, and everyone, is working in unison.
While you might argue that account executives also aim to make beautiful music, their tools are undoubtedly different -- instead of directing musicians they’re working at advertising agencies making sure the copywriters, art directors and other creatives are doing their jobs.
What Does an Account Executive Oversee?
In short, account executives oversee ad campaigns. Advertising agencies are multifaceted, in so far as they create campaigns for clients across a number of mediums -- print, TV, online. Because of this fact there are various people working on different aspects of a single campaign.
While one department within an agency might be creating a series of print ads for a client, another department might be fashioning a series of television ads. Despite this fact all the ads being created need to be getting across the same message, and it's the account executive's job to make sure that's happening.
Put another way, the account executive is there to make sure all the people creating the various components of the campaign are working in a unified manner, and staying on target with the message of the campaign as hammered out by the media planner.
The account executive is also the liaison between the client and the advertising agency. This means that it's up to the account executive to distill the client’s wishes to the creatives at the agency, and vice versa.
How Do You Get a Job As An Account Executive?
There’s no specific training for account executive positions but most agencies look to hire people with a college degree. Account executives, who need to be skilled at working with people and distilling ideas and directions in a clear and concise way, work their way up at advertising agencies. Generally account execs prove their worth by successfully handling accounts and moving on to work on multiple accounts and/or bigger accounts. Above the account executive position is the account manager.

Market a Used Car through Newspaper Classifieds

By Keith Griffin

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Newspapers are still a viable means for selling a used car. Just make the right choice when it comes to the newspaper you use. Otherwise, you’re going to be throwing good money after bad.
Do you have a fairly common used car you want to sell? Your best bet is going to be a smaller daily newspaper. Why? Your ad is not going to get lost among lots of other ads for the same vehicle. There’s actually little reason to post an ad for a 2005 Pontiac G6 in a large newspaper that has access to a website like cars.com with its listings.
Instead, put your ad in your regional daily newspaper. The aim is not always to reach the widest market. You want to reach the market that is going to buy your car.
Put yourself in the buyer’s shoes. There are three Pontiac G6s for sale. One is 10 miles away. Another is 25 miles and the third is 50 miles. A perusal of my Sunday classifieds unveiled that same scenario. Frankly, with all three roughly the same price, I’m going to buy the car that’s roughly in my neighborhood.
There is another advantage to advertising in smaller publications: ads run longer for a similar (if not lower) price. Here’s one example from two Connecticut publications where I live:
Journal Inquirer (Manchester, CT) - Automotive Sure Deal - Sure Deal Classifieds $41.50 - for items priced $1000 or over. 5 lines for 30 days, includes a photo if provided. Private party advertisers only selling autos or merchandise, no refunds. $4 each additional line.
Hartford Courant (Hartford, CT) - 7 Days Print - 14 Online - Renew Print - $45 - 4 lines, 7 days in the Courant - One free photo in print ad - Expanded ad on cars.com for 14 days - One free 7-day print renewal - Add'l print lines available for $11.35 per line - For private party customers only - 3 of your photos on cars.com.
The Journal Inquirer ad is the better value because the ad runs for longer, at a lower price, with an additional line of space. The downside is there is no online component to the ad, but there are also not a lot of waste eyeballs look at your used car ad.
One final piece of advice: stick with paid newspapers that people have delivered to their homes or offices. Specialty publications that you find at your Chinese takeout restaurant are good options for advertising your used car.

How Cyberstalkers Obtain Your Personal Information

From Alexis A. Moore

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Jan 8 2009
This is seventh in a series of articles on women and cyberstalking written for About.com by cyberstalking expert Alexis A. Moore, founder of the national advocacy group Survivors in Action. Today anyone can conduct an internet search typing in such key words as
  • license plate records
  • people locate
  • employment locate
  • bank account locate
  • employment locate
  • phone record trace
  • social security number trace
  • property records information
Searching with these words will bring up hundreds of internet-based datafurnishing companies that supply consumer records online. Some even provide these types of records for free. Experiment a little and you'll quickly discover that you don't need to hire a private investigator to obtain personal information; with a little ingenuity and the help of the internet, you can find it yourself. Internet-based information brokerages and datafurnishing companies are surfacing all over the country. The information age has created a new revenue source for those who provide consumer records. Datafurnishing is a billion dollar industry that includes the three national credit bureaus, companies like Lexis Nexis, Accurint, Choicepoint and the thousands of others that pop up daily. All provide consumer private records with the click of a mouse.
Currently, a convicted felon in California is operating one of the nation's largest information brokering businesses. Yet the hands of local law enforcement are tied because information brokers are neither licensed nor regulated nearly as well as they should be. Simply stated, anyone at any time can hire one of these datafurnishing agents or an information broker and obtain data that the majority of us believe is private.
In California, I have been working with State Assemblywoman Fiona Ma's office in San Francisco to help introduce legislation that will mandate licensing of all information brokers that sell a Californian's private records and information to a third party. Such licensing is not presently in place, enabling many of these so-called information brokers' practices to remain unnoticed by law enforcement and our nation's law makers.
Over the years I have spoken with members of the justice department, local and state law enforcement including the FBI and political figures. All have had the same response: They aren't aware of anything that protects people's records. Most of the time they shake their heads and tell me it's crazy how easy it is to get access to personal information on the internet.

A Dangerous Trick - Caller ID Spoofing

Many people erroneously believe they are safe from cyberstalking because they are rarely online. But technology has extended beyond the reach of the computer and where technology goes, cyberstalkers can follow.
Caller ID spoofing is simple to do. Google the topic and you'll instantly locate sites where you can purchase the technology yourself. By buying pre-paid time, you can then call someone else, changing the number and the name you're calling from on their call display. The person picks up the phone thinking they're talking to National Bank, and instead it's a stalker after personal information. Using these tricks, cyberstalkers can locate victims by fooling friends and relatives into revealing the victim's whereabouts. Or they can obtain critical personal information to access a victim's private records.
In one case I was involved in, a woman received two texts from what purported to be her bank, asking for personal information. She responded without thinking about it, only to find out later that someone broke into her bank account and paid all of her bills several times. Nothing that could be proven as "stolen". As far as the bank was concerned she was the one who chose to pay bills several times. But it left her completely broke until her next payday -- over two weeks away. Even worse, now an identified person had her social security number and other key pieces of information that allowed him to do it again. And there was nothing she could do to have him arrested.
Legislation banning caller ID spoofing has been created and passed in the House and referred to the Senate, but as of this writing it has gone no further. Until laws are on the books banning the sale of caller ID spoofing technology, it is simple to purchase this technology anonymously online.

What Does A Manager Do?

By F. John Reh

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

What Does A Manager Do? One of the first lessons a beginning manager must learn is that good managers don't Do anything. A manager's role is to manage the people who do actually do the work. The manager's role is to make the group more effective than they would be without him/her.
That doesn't mean that managers spend all day sitting around with their feet up on the desk drinking coffee. Most managers I know work very hard and work longer hours than anyone on their teams. So what do managers do? Read on.

Build A Team

One of the first things you have to do as a manager is to build your team. Usually, when you become a manager, your team is already in place. You may need to add a few people or replace some people. Don't be in a hurry. Learn about your team and the people on the team before you shake things up. Don't feel you have to prove you're the manager. Take the time to think things through before you make major changes.

Motivate Your People

The simplest way to make your team more productive is to motivate them. Motivating people can be a real challenge for many managers because it is so different for each person. You will find that what works to motivate one person won't work for another and will actually be a demotivator for still another. As a manager, you need to find the unique motivators for each member of your team.

Run The Business

While you are motivating your team, you have to stay focused on the business itself. Managers must handle many specific tasks, mostly related to personnel actions and financial transactions, to keep the company functioning. You will have to make decisions daily about the correct way to do things and to keep your team function as a part of the whole company. It doesn't matter how well your unit performs unless it is in sync with the rest of the company.

Using a Cash or Accrual Accounting System

By Rosemary Peavler

When you start a small business, there are a number of initial decisions you have to make. One of those decisions is what type of accounting system you are going to use in your small business. In other words, how are you going to record your financial transactions? You can use either a cash system of accounting or accrual accounting depending on several factors.

Cash and Accrual Accounting Systems

A cash accounting system is based on cash flow. You record transactions when cash is actually exchanged. Income is recorded when you receive a cash, credit card, or check payment. Expenses are recorded when you pay them by cash, credit card, or check. Your particular business or industry may also have alternative methods of payment.
An accrual accounting system is based on when the transaction happens rather than on when cash changes hands. If your company earns income in January but isn’t paid until February, then the income isn’t recorded until February under the cash accounting method, but it would be reported in January under the accrual accounting method.
If you extend credit to your customers and allow them to purchase items and pay for them at a later time, then you are incurring accounts receivables. If you record the accounts receivable when you incur them, that is accrual accounting. If you record them when you receive payment, that is cash accounting.

Choosing your Accounting Method

In the real world, not many businesses operate on a purely cash accounting method because you often sell products and are paid later or other types of transactions occur and payment or income is received at a later time. Using an accrual accounting method gives you a better picture of your income and expenses and, as a result, your profitability. Accrual accounting also requires the use of double-entry bookkeeping. Double-entry bookkeeping means that you have to have knowledge of the accounting equation. Cash accounting, however, gives you a better idea of your cash flow.
When you file your first tax return for your small business with the Internal Revenue Service, you need to report your choice of accounting method. You are required to use the accrual method of accounting if any of the following three conditions apply to your business:
  • Your company is a C corporation.
  • Your company has inventory.
  • Your gross sales revenue is greater than $5 million. There are exceptions to this rule that you should discuss with your tax accountant.

Benefits and Perks

By Alison Doyle

For many of us, the most important factor in considering a job offer is salary. For others, job security is of primary importance. Also high on the list of considerations are benefits and perks. When considering perks, the desire to work in a comfortable, casual environment where employees can set their own work schedule, have an option to telecommute, and where there is a a casual dress code, are all important.
Typical Employee Benefit Packages
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the average number of annual paid holidays is 10. The average amount of vacation days are 9.4 after a year of service. Almost half the (medium and large) employers surveyed offered either a defined benefit or a defined contribution pension plan. About 75% offered health insurance but, almost as many, required some employee contribution towards the cost. It's not hard to look at the averages and see how your employer or your job offer measures up. What complicates matters is the increasing use of bonuses, perks and incentives by employers to recruit and retain employees. Look at the companies rated the best places to work and you'll discover many offer health club memberships, flexible schedules, day care, tuition reimbursement, and even on-site dry cleaning.
Surveys by Ceridian have found 65 percent of employers believe that perks help to attract employees. The average number of perks offered by companies range from 3.38 perks at the smallest employers to to 5.20 perks at firms with over 5000 employees. A sure sign that employers are paying attention to the importance of added benefits is the fact that the most frequently offered perks mirror the most frequently desired perks - casual dress and flexible work hours. Some companies even offer a few options that I wasn't aware of on the list including bringing your pet to work, concierge services and take home meals.
How to Evaluate Perks
As you can see there is no standard list of perks that you can measure your job offer against. What you'll need to do is evaluate each offer on it's merits - the salary, the benefits and the perks, and determine how those perks will benefit you. If you don't plan on having children for a while or if your children are grown, it's not that important whether on-site child care is offered. Parents should check to see if the company provides paid time-off if your child is sick. It's a benefit I couldn't have done without when my daughter was a baby!
If you absolutely have to work-out every day, look for employers who offer a gym membership. Not a morning person? Ask about flexible hours. Can't stand wearing a suit? Ask about dress code. And it is important to ask, not all perks will be offered to all employees nor will they be mentioned during an interview. Consider which perks would complement your life style and your needs and choose accordingly.

The following sample job interview questions about management and supervisory skills enable you to assess your candidate’s skills in management and supervision. Feel free to use these job interview questions in your own candidate interviews.

Management Job Interview Questions That You Always Ask

Always ask these management interview questions. The interview question answers give you valuable knowledge about the candidate’s experience. Ask:

  • How many employees reported directly to you in your management job? (You are asking about the number of employees whom he or she directly supervised with performance assessment and compensation assignment responsibilities.)
  • Describe the exact responsibilities and activities over which you had oversight for these employees.

Behavioral Management Interview Questions

  • If I were to interview the people who have reported to you in the past, how would they describe your management style?
  • If I were to interview your reporting staff members, how would they describe your strengths and weaknesses as a manager and supervisor?
  • Give me an example, from your past work experiences, about a time when you had an underperforming employee reporting to you. How did you address the situation? Did the employee’s performance improve? If not, what did you do next?
  • Rate your management skills on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 representing excellent management skills. Provide three examples from your past work experiences that demonstrate your selected number is accurate.
  • Describe the work environment or culture and its management style in which you have experienced the most success.
  • Tell me about a time when you had a reporting employee who performed very well. The employee exceeded goals and sought more responsibility. Describe how you handled this situation day-to-day and over time.
  • Describe three components of your philosophy of management that demonstrate what you value and add, as an individual, to an organization’s culture and work environment.
  • What factors are crucial within an organization and must be present for you to work most effectively?
  • Tell me about a time when you reorganized a department or significantly changed employee work assignments. How did you approach the task? How did the affected employees respond to your actions?
