The Dos and Don'ts of Quitting Your Job and Heading for Greener Pastures

By Adnan Masood

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Are you ready to quit your job? Regardless of the reason, how you quit is important as it might impact your ability to get a good reference in the future. When it comes to quitting your job, please take these important dos and don'ts into consideration.
DO make sure you have another job lined up. Or, at least make sure that you are financially secure and able to be without a job for a few months. This economy has made it hard for job seekers. Millions of men and men are currently out of work. While there are jobs available, there aren't enough to go around. So do not count on being able to land a new job right away; plan ahead and be prepared.
DON'T quit your job for a ridiculous reason. Say you got a job offer and that new position pays more; great! That is a good reason to quit your job. However, not good reasons aren't worth the hassle of going through a job search, possibly being unemployed for months, and so forth. Speaking of which, what aren't good reasons? It depends on the situation at hand, but you should never quit your job on a whim because of a dispute with a coworker or boss, unless you feel threatened.
DO give proper notice. This is hard in some cases. Say you got a new job offer but you need to start in one week. What should you do? You want to provide two weeks notice before quitting your job, but what if you MUST start in one week? Tell your current employer right away that you will only be available to work for one more week. Do know though that this might impact your ability to secure a good reference. If possible, provide two weeks notice at the least.
DON'T tick off the entire workplace on your way out the door. If you are quitting your job due to a problem with your boss or your coworker, you might look at your last day as an opportunity to let it all out. Despite that great feeling at the time, you never know when you will come across your coworkers or bosses again. Remember that old saying "never burn a bridge that you might need to cross again?" Remember it!
DO provide your notice in writing and verbally when possible. If you work for a larger company where you rarely see the person in charge, it is okay to turn in a written notice only. However, if you deal with your supervisor on a regular basis, hand in your letter of resignation in person and have a quick chat with them. Explain your reasons for leaving (but put a positive spin on your on-the-job experience). Basically, go out of your way to seem like a model employee because this will help when it comes time to get a good reference.
Now that you got a few good tips on quitting your job, are you ready to start your job search?

By Azhar Devaraj Victor

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

What are the best part time jobs for college students? These are jobs which allow flexibility in terms of working hours and to a great extent location. The main focus of college students should be their studies and the timely completion of the courses that they have signed up for. Though part time jobs enable college students a source of much needed income, such jobs should not, in any way, distract them from their studies. Based on the above, the following are some of the 10 best part time jobs for college students:
  1. Online Surveys: There are several sites and Google Ads that will help you learn more about online surveys. Pick the ones that have a proven track record and are offered by reputable sources.
  2. College or on campus jobs: Check out the part time jobs that are available at your college or those near you. It could be something administrative especially during student intake peaks or an operational job. The library, counter, student counseling, cafeteria or any such service areas offer part time work opportunities.
  3. Sales Promoters: You will be surprised at how much you can make for just a few hours a day. Pick those where you can select the number of hours you wish to work or the shift that is suitable to you.
  4. Fast Food Workers: Turnover is very high especially at the popular outlets. They take on many part timers who leave to take on better opportunities. These people need to be replaced on a constant basis as service standards have to be maintained.
  5. Hotel F & B Assistants: These are high labour intensive jobs. Conferences, seminars, weddings and other such events require a lot of manpower.
  6. Online Affiliate Marketers: There is a huge opportunity here and they are among the best part time jobs for college students. You can do this with just a computer with Internet connection. You can work from anywhere, chose how much you want to do and when you want to work. A laptop would give you greater freedom with this type of work.
  7. Donors: Find out from the hospitals nearest to you whether they need donors. Some pay for blood and plasma donations.
  8. Care Centre Helpers: Homes for senior citizens or nurseries need people to spend a few hours reading, talking, to residents, playing with children or doing some cleaning. Call these centres and find out what they may be able to offer.
  9. eBay Sellers: Sell products online. There are many other sites where you can do this. However, eBay is the best and most popular.
  10. Research Study Assistants: Some post graduate students might need someone to organise their documents, type or read some material and make notes. Research centres may need some participants in their programs.

Tips For Hiring Your 1st Employee

By Ken Sundheim

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

As a small business owner, hiring your first employee is typically quite exciting as it alludes to the fact that you are doing well and are doing what every business should be - growing. Since employees can make or break a company, you want to start out on the right foot and, thus use this person to further build your business.
Though, keep in mind that you should not be hiring employees just because you think that having an employee is prestigious or that it looks good for clients. Ensure that business is coming in at a steady pace before you go through with the aforementioned search.
How to Find Employees Without Incurring High Fees
Unless you've allotted a fair amount of money to this search and you need somebody very specific, there are cheaper routes one can through rather than using a recruiting agency. Unless you have someone in mind for the job and can network, there are cheaper ways to find what you are looking for.
First, you can buy a Monster or Yahoo posting package which will run you a few hundred dollars, but if you find the right person via the route, the return on investment ought to be quite sound.
Then, there is the obvious Craigslist, though you are less likely to find what you are looking for through this medium. Linked-In is free and can also be effective. Last, and this is a route many don't think to go through, you can contact local universities and they should allow you to post the jobs for free.
You Have to Sell Them As Much As They Have to Sell You
For any employee, working for a start-up organization is risky as they don't know whether or not they will find themselves back on the job market in a few months with a resume that now reads less employment stability than it had prior to coming to your company. How do you sell them on the position? There are a few ways.
Make Them See Your Vision, But Be Honest
Upon meeting with the job candidates, be prepared to paint a vision as to where the company is going, how it is currently doing financially and describe as to what you wish to do with the firm. Conversely, if you tell them that you are sitting on the next Google and throw out lofty goals that you can't back up, people are going to shy away.
Have a Firm Game Plan
Prior to meeting with the applicants, have a salary and a job description set up. For a small business, since so much needs to get done, this can be somewhat difficult. Even so, try your best to be as specific as possible.
Give Them a Certain Amount of Autonomy
Even though a candidate resume may read "Sales," as a leader, you should challenge them regarding all aspects of the business. Small businesses have limited resources when it comes to hiring a first employee. In time, take a serious look at their capabilities and use all of them to your advantage. Not only will this help you, it will make the job much more interesting for the employee which means, among other factors, increased productivity.

How to Outsource - 3 Big Outsourcing Tips

By Alan Saltz

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Wondering how to outsource work to a freelancer and how to find freelancers, either in the United States or abroad?
You're not alone.
Outsourcing work to freelance workers, or virtual workers as some refer to it, doesn't seem like an easy thing to. Especially the first time you do it.
For most people wondering how to outsource, a lot of questions come to mind:
  1. What kind of work do I outsource?
  2. Who should I hire?
  3. Where do I find freelancers?
  4. How do I hire a freelance worker?
  5. How do I communicate with my freelancer?
  6. How do I make sure my projects are being done correctly?
  7. How do I know what I'm paying for?
  8. How do I pay a freelancer?
It was questions like these that prevented me from outsourcing for a long time. I really wish they hadn't. Now that I know how to outsource and have actually gone through the process, I can see tremendous value in it - in the form of significant time and cost savings. It's also not nearly as difficult as I anticipated.
Here are 3 helpful tips to help you find freelancers and get started outsourcing.
1. Look to ONLINE freelance hubs.
I used to think that job boards and classified sites like Craigslist were the best places to find freelancers. I was wrong. I discovered that these were great ways to get lots of resumes... but ultimately I had no idea who these people were, or what I was getting myself into. People who looked great on paper proved to be awful in reality. It was an expensive mistake.
Then finally I came across what I'll call "freelance hubs" - websites like oDesk and Scriptlance - whose SOLE purpose is to unite employers with freelancers all over the world.
These websites have thousands of programmers, writers, web developers, artists, and other freelance workers ready to take on projects. Beyond just a resume, you can see the projects they've taken on, how many hours they've logged, tests they've taken, language proficiency, and (perhaps best of all) REVIEWS from other companies who have hired them.
So before you outsource work, you can have a high level of confidence in the workers you choose.
That's a lot of benefit.
It's also great that these sites can help you learn how to outsource effectively, by streamlining steps in the process such as hiring, team management, and payment.
2. Start SMALL.
Seriously, outsourcing is much less difficult than it may seem.
What IS overwhelming is trying to outsource a major project, with lots of moving pieces, before you've gone through the process once. Besides, every freelance worker is different. So it pays to see how well you work with someone, and how they run projects, before you worry about figuring everything out yourself. The smaller the project you start with, the less pressure you'll feel to micromanage and the more relaxed you'll be. It's a great "learn as you go" experience.
3. Have a Well DEFINED Project.
Before you get started, make sure you have your project well planned out. Know what you want to do. Know the skills that are necessary to complete that task. Know the scope of the project and the time you expect it to take.
The better you know what you want, the easier it is to find someone to complete the task, and the easier it is to communicate what you want done. A well-defined project also meshes your expectations with your freelancer's, paving the way to a smooth and successful completion.
Also, by the time you have a larger project to outsource, many of your initial questions will be answered already. For example, you may already have a worker you trust, you'll know the best way to communicate, you'll know how payments are made, etc.
Conclusion
Outsourcing may seem like a difficult task, but it really does get easier as you go through the steps. When you start small, you reduce the risk of wasting time and money, and you improve your chances of finding someone you can work with for a long time to come.

A Decade of Women CEOs at FORTUNE 500 Companies

By Lahle Wolfe

The number of women running FORTUNE 500 companies in 2000 was three. In 2009, 15 women CEOs ended the year at the helm of FORTUNE 500 companies including two women of color, Indra Nooyi (PepsiCo) and Andrea Jung (Avon Products.)
2000: There were only 3 women CEOs running FORTUNE 500 companies. Also in 2000, 50 FORTUNE 500 companies had women holding a quarter or more of corporate officer titles, but 90 FORTUNE 500 companies had no women corporate officers at all.
2001: As of August 2001, there were 5 women CEOs running FORTUNE 500 companies.
2002: 10 women ran FORTUNE 500 companies and a total of 11 ran FORTUNE 1000 companies.
2003: There were only 8 women CEOs at the helm of FORTUNE 500 companies. However, according to USA Today, "The smart money was on the women in 2003. Eight Fortune 500 companies have female CEOs, and as a group they outperformed the broader market by a substantial margin."
2004: In 2004 there was 6 women FORTUNE 500 CEOs. Women-run FORTUNE 500 companies out performed male-run FORTUNE 500s.
2005: During 2005 9 women CEOs ran FORTUNE 500 companies but by the end of the year the number fell to 7.
2006: 11 women started out on the list, and 10 women CEOs ran FORTUNE 500 companies at the end of the year.
2007: 12 Women CEOs ran FORTUNE 500 companies and a total of 25 FORTUNE 1000 companies have women in the top job (up from 20).
2008: The number of women CEOs remained at 12.
2009: By year-end, there were 15 women CEOs running FORTUNE 500 companies including Ursula Burns, CEO of Xerox, the first African American female CEO in the United States.
How Data Was Compiled: During some years, statistics on the number of female CEOs were published more than once. The numbers above reflect the highest number of female CEOs during any given year unless otherwise specified. Because CEOs leave, and the FORTUNE 500 company list is dynamic, changes in numbers can occur depending upon when female CEOs were counted during the year.
