The Ins and Outs of Moving for a Job

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

You've found the perfect job but it's clear across the country. What do you do first?

Make Sure You Really Want to Move:
Many of us romanticize living somewhere else. The houses are cheaper, the taxes are lower, and the people are friendlier. Sure, all that might be true, but make sure you are moving for the right reasons. Is your family behind you and supportive? Moving for work takes a lot of flexibility on the part of other family members and dependents. In order to make the move easier on everyone, you have a lot to consider. Will your spouse be able to find work if they want? Will your children have as good opportunities for education and enrichment?
If you are single, it might be easier for you, but it's still an adjustment to make. You may be farther away from your support system and it might take time to feel a part of your new community if you don't know anyone in the area.

Do Your Research:
Investigate the city or town you want to move to. How does the cost of living compare to you current city? Will your money go as far? What is crime like? Are there a lot of things to do for those times when you won't be working? Most cities and towns have web pages where you can find a lot of this information. Do you know anyone in the town you will be relocating to? Ask questions! Only when you are informed can you make sure you are making a decision that's right for you.

Set a Realistic Time Frame:
Do you have to sell your home before you move? Are you waiting for the kids' summer vacation? Before you apply for a job or accept an offer, make sure you're setting a realistic time frame. Be fair to your prospective employer. If you need time to make a decision, make sure you take the time you need. Communicate with your prospective employer so he or she knows the constraints you are working under. As well, be considerate of his or her constraints. Don't apply for a job that needs to be filled ASAP if you can't move until the summer.

Ask For Help:
Your future employer might be able to help you get settled. As well as potentially providing financial relocation assistance (you may be able to negotiate this as part of your offer) your new employer can likely help you in choosing a real estate agent or even suggest a great neighborhood. Don't be afraid to ask.
With a little preparation and foresight, you can enjoy your new opportunity. Moving brings along a lot of challenges but it can be a rewarding way to make a change to both your career and personal life.

Job Interviews- Common Interview Questions and Answers

By Karen Schweitzer

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

While it is impossible to guess exactly what you will be asked during an interview, you can prepare yourself by developing answers to the most common job interview questions. This kind of preparation will not only help you remain calm during the interview, it will help you control the results.

Common Job Interview Questions

Regardless of your field, there are five things that almost every interviewer asks:
  1. Can you tell me about yourself?
This is the most hated and most common question in interview history. Typically asked at the beginning of the job interview, this question gives the interviewer an opportunity to gain knowledge about you and your capabilities.

When you answer, offer a summary of your personality, skills, experience, and work history. Do not mention your knitting hobby or your pet iguana. Try to stick with facts that will demonstrate why you are the person for the job.

  2. Why do you want to work here?
Even if it is true, do not answer with: Because I really need a job and you were hiring. If you did any research prior to the interview, you can answer this question. Utilize what you know about the company. Tell the interviewer why you admire the company, their practices, or their product.

If all else fails, make a connection between the job description and your abilities. Tell the interviewer why you are compatible with their company.

  3. Why should we hire you?
This is one of the most important questions that you will be asked, and you need to make sure that you have a very good answer. Try to be as specific as possible. Explain in detail: why you would make a good employee, why you are the right fit for the job, and what sets you apart from other applicants. Point out your achievements, accomplishments, and applicable experience.

  4. Why did you leave your last job?
This is actually more of a test than a question. The interviewer wants to see what pushes your buttons. Your answer should be as honest as possible, but whatever you do, try not to sound bitter, angry, or violent. And most importantly, do not badmouth your former company, boss, or co-workers.

  5. Where do you see yourself in five years?
Why do interviewers continue to ask this question? Because- it shows them how motivated you are and it offers insight into your professional intentions. Instead of telling the interviewer that you would like to be sailing in the Bahamas, try offering information about your professional goals as the relate to your job or industry.

Job Interview Answer: What Was the Biggest Accomplishment in This Position?

By Alison Doyle

Your potential employer will want to know what you accomplished, and what you didn't, in your current or last position.
The best way to respond is to give an example of something you accomplished that is directly related to the job you are interviewing for. Review your resume and review the job posting. Find the best match and use that to show how what you accomplished will be beneficial to the company you are interviewing with.
If you wrote a targeted cover letter when applying for the job use the information you included to create your response. For example, if you are interviewing for a job at a school where you will need to manage student registration, explain to the interviewer how you registered students for courses, designed and managed registration software, and solved customer problems.
If you didn't fail at anything, say so. If you can think of an example, be sure that it's a minor one and turn it into a positive. For example, if you were working on a project that was behind deadline, explain to the interviewer how you adjusted the workload and the timeline to get back on track and ahead of schedule.

Job Interview Answers: Your Responsibilities

By Alison Doyle

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

When you're asked what interests you about the position you are interviewing for, the best way to respond is to describe the qualifications listed in the job posting, then connect them to your skills and experience. That way, the employer will see that you know about the job you're interviewing for (not everyone does) and that you have the qualifications necessary to do the job.
For example, if you were interviewing for a Human Resources Manager job where you would be responsible for recruiting, orientation, and training, you will want to discuss how you were responsible for these functions in your past positions, and why you are interested in continuing to develop your expertise in Human Resources management.
Another example would be if you were interviewing for a Programmer / Analyst position. In that case, you would mention your interest in learning and excelling at new technologies, your experience in programming both new applications, and your interest in and your ability to problem solve.
In all cases, you will want to convey your enthusiasm for the opportunity to interview, along with your solid ability to do the job.

Finding a Job for ESL Learners : Example Interview Questions

By Kenneth Beare

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

Interviewer: What is your greatest strength?
Candidate: I work well under pressure. When there is a deadline (a time by which the work must be finished), I can focus on the task at hand (current project) and structure my work schedule well. I remember one week when I had to get 6 new customer reports out by Friday at 5. I finished all the reports ahead of time without having to work overtime.
Candidate: I am an excellent communicator. People trust me and come to me for advice. One afternoon, my colleague was involved with a troublesome (difficult) customer who felt he was not being served well. I made the customer a cup of coffee and invited both my colleague and the client to my desk where we solved the problem together.
Candidate: I am a trouble shooter. When there was a problem at my last job, the manager would always ask me to solve it. Last summer, the LAN server at work crashed. The manager was desperate and called me in (requested my help) to get the LAN back online. After taking a look at the daily backup, I detected the problem and the LAN was up and running (working) within the hour.
Comment: This is not the time to be modest! Be confident and always give examples. Examples show that you are not only repeating words you have learned, but actually do possess that strength.
Interviewer: What is your greatest weakness?
Candidate: I am overzealous (work too hard) and become nervous when my co-workers are not pulling their weight (doing their job). However, I am aware of this problem, and before I say anything to anyone, I ask myself why the colleague is having difficulties.
Candidate: I tend to spend too much time making sure the customer is satisfied. However, I began setting time-limits for myself If I noticed this happening.
Comment: This is a difficult question. You need to mention a weakness that is actually a strength. Make sure that you always mention how you try to improve the weakness.
Interviewer:Why do you want to work for Smith and Sons?
Candidate: After following your firms progress for the last 3 years, I am convinced that Smith and Sons are becoming one of the market leaders and I would like to be part of the team.
Candidate: I am impressed by the quality of your products. I am sure that I would be a convincing salesman because I truly believe that the Atomizer is the best product on the market today.
Comment: Prepare yourself for this question by becoming informed about the company. The more detail you can give, the better you show the interviewer that you understand the company.

Job Interview Tips: How to Interview Potential Employees

By Susan M. Heathfield

Job Vacancy Indonesia, Employee, Vacancy

The job interview is a powerful factor in the employee selection process in most organizations. While the job interview may not deserve all of the attention that the job interview receives, it is still a powerful force in hiring.
Other background checking and work history references provide much less personalized and more factual information, and hopefully, you have added these checks to your hiring decisions, too. But the job interview remains key to assessing the candidate's cultural fit. The job interview remains the tool you can use to get to know your candidate on a more personal basis. The job interview process helps other employees “own” the new employee who joins your organization.

How to Select Candidates to Interview

Your starting point, before scheduling a job interview with a candidate, is to review each candidate's:
  • Resume cover letter and
  • Resume.
When faced with 100-200 candidates, it's important to use tools that separate the great candidates from the many. These will help you select the candidates for the job interview. They will also help you prepare your list of questions to use to telephone screen candidates and ask during the job interviews.
  • Read Why This Resume Rocks.
  • Hold a recruiting planning meeting.
  • Devise a list of qualities, skills, and experience to use to screen resumes and job interview candidates.

Telephone Screen Candidates Prior to an Interview

The telephone interview or candidate screen allows the employer to determine if the candidate's qualifications, experience, workplace preferences and salary needs are congruent with the position and organization. The telephone job interview saves managerial time and eliminates unlikely candidates. While I recommend developing a customized interview for each position, this generic job interview will guide you.

How to Prepare for the Job Interview

The interview team was selected at your earlier recruiting planning meeting, so the interviewers have had time to prepare. You will want to use the list of qualities, skills, knowledge, and experience you developed for the resume screening process.
Use this list to make sure each interviewer understands their role in the candidate assessment. Review each interviewer’s questions, too, to make sure the interview questions selected will obtain the needed information.
